Introduction. Artificial intelligence (AI) is being actively introduced into education, yet the capabilities of neural networks in teaching school subjects are used only fragmentarily. Identifying the prospects for updating teaching methods based on AI technologies is an important research, methodological, and practical task.
Materials and Methods. To identify the range of approaches and opinions in the field, as well as legal, moral and ethical issues, the authors analyzed the findings of a number of contemporary domestic and foreign scholars and conducted a mixed-design sociological study based on questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with Russian teachers. The study also involved generalizing teaching practices in social sciences subjects in the context of the dissemination of three models of AI integration by students into the educational process.
Results. Surveys and pedagogical observations confirmed that both students and teachers generally hold a positive attitude toward the integration of AI technologies in education, and identified existing practices of their application. With examples, the authors described the methodological conditions for using neural networks in generating socio-historical content. The study found that a teacher’s ability to formulate requests to AI (prompting) directly affects the teacher’s methodological competence in this area; that modern teaching methods using AI are currently focused on increasing the learning motivation and cognitive interest of school students; and that students mostly turn to AI cognitive services when selecting subject content. Practices such as personalized learning, expanding learning using AI technologies, and AI tutors remain isolated cases.
Conclusions. AI technologies are transforming education as a part of social reality, reflecting almost all of its processes and risks. Examples of AI use in socio-historical education of school students demonstrate promising methodological solutions and illustrate ways to develop teaching methods as a theoretical framework in the system of scientific knowledge, as an algorithm of pedagogical activity, and as teaching practice.
