Abstract

Introduction. Positive psychology is one of the most prominent and productive fields within contemporary human sciences. A vital theoretical and practical component of this field is the 24 personality strengths model, along with its corresponding questionnaire. Several empirical studies have established that four specific strengths — namely, curiosity, zest, gratitude, and optimism — hold universal significance for both the development of psychological well-being and the mitigation of negative external influences upon it. This pattern has been termed the Quartet of Psychological Resilience. This study aims to empirically verify the Quartet of Psychological Resilience construct, which comprises four components (curiosity, zest, gratitude, and optimism), and to test a questionnaire based on it.

Materials and Methods. The study sample comprised 1,146 respondents aged 16 to 70 (mean: 22, standard deviation: 8.46), including 315 males and 831 females. To confirm convergent validity, the Russian versions of the following instruments were used: the Diener Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Two-tailed Spearman rank correlation was applied. For the empirical verification of the construct, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. Cronbach’s Alpha was used to confirm the questionnaire’s reliability and consistency.

Results. The findings suggest that the four personality strengths (curiosity, zest, gratitude, and optimism) are interconnected and can be grouped into a single construct: the Quartet of Psychological Resilience. Additionally, the psychometric verification of the questionnaire was conducted.

Conclusions. The findings indicate that the questionnaire demonstrates good psychometric characteristics, making it suitable for research purposes.
