Introduction. The article examines the underexplored scientific and methodological problem of teachingthe functional and stylistic use of conjunctions in schools. It aims to highlight the functional and stylistic properties of conjunctions, describe their use in descriptive, narrative, and argumentative texts, and reveal their communicative potential.
Materials and Methods. The study focuseson the lexical and grammatical class of conjunctions functioning in texts of various types of speech — descriptive, narrative and argumentativetexts. The study program includes developing school students’ ability to analyze texts of different styles of speech, find conjunctions of various types in them, and use them correctly in oral and written speechin accordance with the grammatical norms of the Russian language. The article relies on various types of texts to demonstrate the text-forming role of conjunctions, as well as their functional and stylistic role. Results. The use of this teaching method optimizes the process of learning conjunctions, shows their communicative potential in texts, and improves the oral and written speech of seventh-graders. This scientific and methodological studyprovides modern Russian language teacherswith a systematic approach to working with various texts to teach the functional and stylistic use of conjunctions. Throughout the process, seventh-graders learned to 1) recognize conjunctions by the totality of their features in texts and distinguish them from other parts of speech; 2) determine the functions of conjunctions in texts; 3) correctly use conjunctions in sentences and texts; 4) use conjunctions as a means of inter-phrase connection; 5) insert necessary conjunctions into the text; and 6) edit texts with incorrectly used conjunctions. Conclusions. The proposed method ofteaching conjunctions through the functional and stylistic approach enhances the communicative and speech skills of school students. Itpromotesthe correct, communicatively accurate and appropriate use of conjunctions in coherent oral and written speech. This method can also be applied toteaching other lexical and grammatical categories of words and helps establish a solid linguistic and methodological foundation for the subsequent study of complex sentences in the 9th grade, thereby increasing its overall effectiveness in school education.
